In 2020 Córdoba will produce more than 7 million Liters of Milk per Day

The data emerges from the research of a multidisciplinary team. Regarding the exportable remainder, they calculate that it would be of 378,251 tons and the income of currency of 2,712 million dollars for the same year. The study was carried out for the Strategic Participative and Federal Agro alimentary and Agro industrial Plan, by means of which they seek to define the orientation of this sector for the next years.

The Argentinean dairy system presents a primary structure formed by more than 11 thousand dairy farms of which 3 thousand are located in Córdoba. According to data from 2009, milk production in this province is concentrated in three relevant basins: Northeast with the 44 percent of the production and the 51 of the provincial dairy farms; Villa María with the 43 percent of the production and the 35 percent of dairy farms and the south basin with the 13 and 15 percent, respectively.

As a result of the importance acquired by this sector in the productive development of the region, the University formed a multidisciplinary working team to participate in the Strategic Participative and Federal Agro alimentary and Agro industrial Plan. The objective was to contribute with the “collective definition of the direction and trajectory of the agro alimentary and agro industrial sector in the next years”.

In the frame of this work there were analyzed six strategic axes which compose the Plan’s mission and “the participation of the State as a promoter of the articulation between the different actors, as a regulator and moderator of the sector’s interests and as a guarantor of the rules” was remarked. Besides, for the techno-productive and economic chains it was valued the creation of economic richness, the integration of international markets, the creation of Origin Added Value (VAO) and the sustainability depending on the environmental risks”.

According to the assumptions applied to the short term aims, the level of average production of milk cows “might increase in 2013 to 23.13 liters per day, but given that in the short term the rodeo is still with the current negative reproduction rate, the number of heads might fall to 543,918. Despite this, it is expected to reach a primary production of 10,130,370 of liters per day, whereas for the industrialization, the expectations are to reach 10,686,045, that is, a 5% above the primary production of the province”, explained the participants of the team to Argentina Investiga.

On the other hand, they stated a mild increase in the consumption of dairy products at internal level, which is of 209 liters per inhabitant per years and established that, regarding the number of producers, “Argentina is not alien to the reality of other parts of the world, where there is a continuous stop in the activity and for the province the number of producers might decrease to 3,510”, they remarked.

Considering these variables in the medium term, the team established an individual production of milk cows in the order of 25 liters per day with an increase in the size of the rodeo which will reach 583,816 heads. “Both factors might make the primary production to increase to 11,176,939 liters of milk per day and the volume processed in the province might be of 11,790,021”, they predicted.

Finally, in the long term they sustained that “the individual production might reach 26.84 liters per day with 776,205 cows, which might permit to achieve a daily volume of production of 17,140,651 liters and 18,042,790 industrialized in 2020. Regarding the internal consumption, this might be of 246 liters per inhabitant per year, which marks an increment of 21 percent compared to 2010. Regarding the exportable remain, it might reach 378,251 tons and the income of foreign currency 2,712 million dollars”.
